When you are just getting started with your business, it’s a super exciting time! But when reality sets in and you’re building a business while working your day job, it’s way harder to stay inspired.

Let’s face it—building a business is amazing, but it’s also really freakin’ hard! Especially when you’re working full time and facing all of the challenges of growing a business, you might rapidly lose your sense of motivation.

Luckily, there are a few amazing ways to stay inspired in your business and fix your motivation—even when you’re working a day job.

7 Ways To Stay Inspired While Working Your Day Job | Heal My Muse

How to stay inspired and motivated to grow your business while working full-time

These are my best tips to keep your motivation high even when you’ve got a million things on your to-do list each day.

To grow your business and see the results you want, these tips will help you stay inspired!

Create a consistent daily process

So many entrepreneurs are dreamers. That’s what makes us take the leap to actually follow our dreams and pursue owning a business!

But while goals and imagination are essential, you definitely need to go a step further. You need a solid plan and daily process to help you reach those goals. A daily plan helps you stay focused, but with your goals in mind, which keeps you inspired in turn!

Try creating a daily task checklist to create consistency and build habits that align with your goals. For example, if growing your social media engagement rate is a goal, create a checklist with tasks like engaging in your niche, engaging on stories, posting day in the life content, and answering comments and DMs.

To stay inspired in your business, you need to take action. Instead of spending all your time visualizing what you’re hoping to accomplish, take strategic action and show up every single day in your business.

This really does help you set yourself up for success each day. Plus, you’ll feel accomplished in consistently checking off those tasks, which boosts your motivation and inspiration even more.

On the same note, try not to get distracted by new ideas or other tasks. While innovating in your business is a good idea, you should dedicate time to researching and creating new ideas. Don’t let yourself get distracted by tons of new ideas rather than following through on your current projects and goals.

Make time to work on your business every morning

When you’re a business owner, you have a lot on your plate. Combine that with working a full-time job during the day, and you’re facing a recipe for burnout.

To stay inspired in your business, you need to make it a priority. I recommend working in the morning before you head to work! This is better than waiting until you get home from work because you’re mentally energized and ready to go.

Plus, getting up earlier actually makes you more productive. Your body’s aligned with its natural circadian rhythm, so you’ll feel energized and ready to focus.

It’s totally okay if you’re not a morning person and this sounds awful. Even small bits of change go a long way! Try spending 15 minutes each morning working on your business before work, and gradually increase from there.

Change your time management strategy to stay inspired

When you have a day job and are working to grow your business, you have limited time on your hands. Instead of getting overwhelmed by everything on your to-do list, focus on getting organized and learning to prioritize!

You need to maximize the time you do have and work on the right tasks for your business.

This is where task batching comes in handy! For example, only answering emails during a specific time of day. Set up one day to create marketing content. Keep client work and work for your own business separate.

When you create patterns like this, you know exactly what you need to work on and when. This helps you avoid getting lost or overwhelmed by all that you need to get done. A task management system like Trello or Asana is a great way to keep track of everything and prioritize.

Join a community of entrepreneurs in a similar boat

One of the negatives about entrepreneurship is that it can be lonely. Finding a community helps you feel connected and stay inspired!

There are so many online communities out there, from Facebook Groups to LinkedIn communities. Find a community with like-minded people in similar situations as you—working a job while building a business! You’ll be able to form valuable relationships, stay inspired, and ask questions.

You can also consider joining a mastermind group to gain a community like this. Just do your research to make sure that the group aligns with your values and niche!

Prioritize self-care and take breaks

If you truly want to stay inspired, you absolutely need to prioritize breaks and self-care. Avoiding burnout is so important! And resting helps refresh your motivation, letting you be more productive after your break.

So many entrepreneurs avoid taking breaks because they don’t want to seem like they’re giving up, not passionate, or not serious. But every single one of us—especially those also working a job—deserves a break.

When you prioritize yourself and take care of yourself (physically and mentally!) you’ll be able to show up as your best self in all the areas of your life.

Stay inspired with podcasts

Podcasts are an amazing avenue to stay inspired! You can check out general business-related podcasts, podcasts tailored to your niche or business, or just entrepreneurial podcasts.

Many times, podcasts feature guest experts and inspiring success stories that will help boost your motivation. Plus, they usually offer tips and tricks for growth, which is always a win! When you’re working a full-time job, listen to podcasts during your commute to help you stay inspired even during the day.

Change your mindset

Most of us have a pretty unhealthy mindset when it comes to business success. We don’t reach success on a steady uphill. Instead, entrepreneurship is full of highs and lows!

Your journey is unique to you—and definitely don’t fall into the comparison game. What you see online for someone’s business is a curated viewpoint. It doesn’t show the lows, but we all have them!

If you really want to stay inspired, realize that success means refusing to give up, even when things are tough.

These tips will help you stay inspired when you’re growing your business and working a day job. Whether you’re just getting started or you’re worried about burnout, prioritize self-care and learn to maximize your time for the best results!
